On Saturday the May 17th the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) from the North Santa Cruz County SELPA held its Fourth Annual Awards for Exceptional Achievement. The Awards offered recognition to teachers, students, administrators, and of course, instructional assistants for their continual hard work. Hosted at the Daubenbiss House garden, the afternoon was beautiful – sunny, warm, full of tasty treats and interesting, wonderful people. Everybody that received an award or nominated a recipient spoke a little about what led them to the ceremony that day, and there were some very touching words that reaffirmed for us what we all do.
One example of the CAC's recognition was given to Nirtan Rothchild. She was
nominated by Debby Molina from Santa Cruz City Schools. Nirtan’s field
of expertise is very specialized and there are very few people in the State
of California trained to Nirtan’s level. She works as an intervener
with a young boy who is both vision and hearing impaired. Nirtan is his "window"
to the world. She interprets everything around him. Under her watchful eye
and skilled teaching he has become more and more independent and he too won
an award on Saturday for the exceptional progress that he has made.

Thank you Nirtan for all of your hard work and congratulations on this year's
special award!
